Drugs to Treat Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NALFD) May be the Next Expensive and Widely Prescribed Medications

Our sources tell us that based on recent news stories raising awareness of NALFD, more drugs to treat the disease may be coming to market soon. A prescription for one of these drugs, combined with a prescription for a weight loss drug (which may be simultaneously prescribed), could cost plans nearly $10,000 per month for these drugs for each plan participant. Roughly 30% of adults could be diagnosed with NALFD, so if these drugs reach their full potential in the market, the cost could be devastating to most plans and their plan participants.

An example of one of these stories appeared in The Daily Mail on September 16, 2024. While we do not know how the story reached The Daily Mail, and make no allegation regarding that, our sources say it reads like something that raises awareness of a disease prior to launching a new high-priced medication.
